Archive for Technology

Sitting here at Book & Bean listening to some local boys play some incredible music. Feel like a queen bee.
Yet, the reality is that I still can’t pay the bills. I still am overwhelmed by the fact that I have eight kids to care for and very little time to devote to them.
Read recently about how businesses and products must be constantly evolving to stay alive. How do we embrace our values of family and stay relevant to our culture? And make a living?

JoKars Wild Update

It was a tough week for us here at JoKars Wild this past week. Our electricity was schedule to be shut off on Saturday morning. Being that we have well water this meant that we would also have no water. We had already extended it a week and had no resources to pay the bill. But someone stepped up to the plate and paid our bill. Thank you!

We also have not been able to drive our pick up truck for quite a few weeks. The brakes were seized up on one side. The truck also needed new tires. Another individual offered to pay for our tires. Joe had gotten some money a couple of weeks ago and bought new brakes to put on. At that time we didn’t know they had seized up on one side. After much struggle and frustration, Joe was not able to fix the passenger side.

So Friday, he decided to take truck into town to get the new tires and hope they could unfreeze the brake. His plan was then to finish fixing it at home. But the repair center did it all and didn’t charge us for the brake repair! So we now have new tires and new brakes on our truck. Praise God.

Since our truck is now operational, we can finish emptying our home and be on the road. We have decided to have everything that is left in our house be given away for free…a Free Sale. It is this Friday from 10-4. Our plan (and I am fully aware that “our plans” are not always God’s plan) is to hit the road on Monday, July 26th. This would allow us to be in Prineville, OR by July 30th for Joe’s high school reunion.

Today we gave our cat away. It was hard for everyone to see her go. We have had Ali for 11 years. She has been a part of our family for a long time. She came with us from Oregon 10 years ago. I hope she will be happy.

We also received another sizable amount to help with our gas expenses. This is a huge plus as driving to Columbus to take Josiah to the zoo gets kind of spendy. But we feel it is worth it. He is worth it.

If you have been to our website lately, you may have noticed little changes. I finished creating our website through FrontPage only to find out that our host doesn’t allow us to do that. So I have to go through and change each thing online. It is a slow process. I am thankful for the knowledge God has given me and for having a technologically gifted husband 😉 Overall, I don’t think I’ve done too bad for my first website. I am hoping to keep learning more though. And maybe I might meet some website savvy friends along the way who can give me tips.

Thank you all for your prayers. Please don’t stop. Please pray that we are able to leave by Monday, that everything that needs to be done, gets done! Pray for more funds. Pray for opportunities and direction. Please pray that we can make it through the letting go…:(…it’s good, but painful…

“Muvee” Makin’

With our homeschooling, we believe in letting the kids pursue their own interests. We try our best as parents to give them the tools they need to pursue their interests.

Yesterday, Michaela asked me how people made the music videos with personal pictures. I told her that there was software for it, and that we had it on the computer. At first I pointed her to PowerPoint, but that didn’t quite work out. Then she found a program no one had used yet that had come with the computer. It is called Muvee (I think). She quickly figured out how to make her very own music video.

Kira was Michaela’s faithful assistant during the video making. After making one video, Kira got to be the publisher using my computer. I had created a YouTube account the day before, so she posted the videos and labeled them on YouTube.

Here is one of the family…

And another on life in the trailer…

Michaela hopes to make more…now that she has a couple under her belt. She also hopes some day soon to get a new camera that is better than our cell phone cameras. She would like to be the one responsible for photos on our blogs/website. I must say that thrills me. I am not much of a photographer. I seem to remember after the fact about taking a photo. Also, I just don’t have the heart for it. Although, I really love seeing beautiful photographs and am very thankful I have so many skilled photographer friends.

We will see where this interest takes her…

To Leave by July 30th

As part of our agreement to be off the property by July 30th, the bank is paying us $500. This is great because we really need the money. The hard part is we still need money to fix the brakes on our truck. We can’t pull off the property with out new brakes. Also, without the brakes being fixed, we can’t bring stuff to Goodwill, we can’t put things in storage, we can’t bring garbage to the dump, and we can’t bring the recycling into town. Almost everything is at a stand still because of the brakes.

Well, not everything. I am able to devote time to getting our website up and running. We are having some technical difficulties with that, but are hoping to have it up real soon. Also, I am still not fully recovered from my fall, so it is hard for me to do much physical activity. This forces me to take it easy.

If you think of us, please pray for my healing and for provision for the brakes on our truck.

Thank you, God, for Your provision and healing in advanced. I know You have it all worked out.

Website and Ants, Plus Praise!

Oy, so hard to come up with a title every time! OK, so I know that I said I wanted to have the new site up by today, but I don’t have it quite done. Close, but not yet done. We are having challenges with my own technological shortcomings. Please bear with me a couple more days. Our ants are gone. Now, I can’t remember if I shared about our ants on here. We had a multitude of ants on our head board yesterday morning. I laid out some ant poison which seemed to just make them multiply. By the end of the day, there were so many! I then took drastic measures and sprayed some deadly chemicals on them. They all died within minutes. Later that evening, I cleaned them all up. I wasn’t sure if they would keep coming out of the wall and then crawl on our heads, but none reappeared. This morning still none. During the day today, a few have come out and slowly died on the board. The poison I laid out (which had Borax in it) is supposed to be ingested then shared with the others. After a while it kills the whole colony. So I think it is working. Praise God for that! I have another praise too. We are needed some funds for some expenses. And it is like the eleventh hour. Then today, someone calls and asks if they can drop by and give us some money. They had no idea we even needed it! Wow! God is so good! But I already knew that! 😉

Updated Layout

For whatever reason we were having some glitches with our previous layout on our website so we had to change it. (Thank you, Joe!) It is only temporary though. I am still working on our website offline and will hopefully have the new version up very, very soon. Sorry for the inconvienence this may have caused some of you. Please pray that I have the knowledge to get it finished! Also, this has been a challenging week for us at JoKars Wild. A lot of faith has been needed to get through this week. If it is God’s will for us to step out in ministry then He will open the doors for us to do so. Please pray for His will to be done. I will keep you updated on God’s work in our lives. Till then…

Ok, I am so sorry that I have not updated for quite a while! I fell after stepping out of the RV on June 8th. My right ankle had given out on me. In the desent, I tried to catch myself with my right hand. So I ended up spraining my right ankle and right wrist.  This has made things very difficult for me. At first Joe carried me from the RV to the house, but soon I was walking without crutches. More out of necessity than healing. All of this down time on my part has lead to my trying to fix my website problems. I decided to bite the bullet and try and figure out FrontPage 2000. So for the last almost two weeks, I have been creating this website on FrontPage. I am not ready to publish, but hope to have it complete by June 30th. Because I have been working so hard on the new site, I have been neglecting this one. Please forgive me. We have also had some delay in our departure from this area. The income we had is no longer. We are finding ourselves in quite a financial bind, but are confident that God will provide a way for us. If we come to mind please pray for our provision. We are still very anxious to leave this property. God is also showing us that we need to be more bold in speaking out the truth. May God bless you.

(Originally published on Now, I have to tell you…I am not technologically savvy. I had been having numerous problems with my old laptop, so my wonderful husband used some of our garage sale monies to buy me a new netbook. This has been a great addition to my life. It was taking me about a half an hour to check my e-mail. I had deleted or moved every file off of my laptop just so it would run. It locked up within minutes of getting it going. It was aweful. But now I have this netbook. The down side is I have to now figure out how to do all the things that I had been wanting to do on this website. For example, this web creater will not let me put a blog on it that has rich text editing. It says it will, but I can’t even make a new paragraph or change the font. I have tried to put a wordpress blog on here, but can not figure out how to do that. Joe put my blogger account to be posted as a RSS feed, but I still have to go to blogger to create new blogs. I want to be able to put it all on this site though. So for right now, I am using this very simple blog format. Everyday I am learning more though, so maybe tomorrow you might see this with rich text editing or maybe not…
